Schedule:

40‑hour work week; salaried position; on‑call required.

Compensation: $96,137.00 – $129,064.00 – $174,553.00

Director, Emergency Management The Director of Emergency Management directs and oversees the Emergency Management programs for Baystate Health (BH). The role maintains the master Emergency Management Plan, ensures preventive measures, conducts training and drills, and leads the organization to compliance with regulatory standards, including TJC, DPH, and OSHA. The Director collaborates with community boards, applies for grant funding, and represents BH at external agency meetings.

Key Responsibilities

Oversight of the Office of Emergency Management, incorporating LEAN principles and staff engagement to meet quality, safety, and financial targets.

Manage the Baystate Health Administrator on Call program – training, scheduling, and continuity planning.

Coordinate the Emergency Response team, including HAZMAT, ensuring regular drills and responses with local emergency services.

Lead strategic planning, grant writing, and identify financial opportunities to fund the Emergency Management Program.

Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training for the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).

Conduct Hazard Vulnerability Analyses (HVA) across all BH sites and use findings to guide preparedness efforts.

Represent BH at regional and state emergency management committees.

Establish partnerships with physicians, vendors, and other departments to promote safety and response capabilities.

Leaders in customer service, performance improvement, and compliance with all applicable regulations.

Provide coaching and mentoring to subordinate managers in talent acquisition, engagement, performance, and professional development.

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor of Science in Safety, Industrial, Environmental Health, Public Health, Emergency Management or related field.

Preferred Master’s in Emergency Management, MHA, MPH, or MBA.

At least 4 years of recent experience in workplace environmental safety and/or emergency management.

Minimum 3 years in hospital safety or emergency preparedness.

Experience in strategic planning for disasters and coordination of incident command operations.

Directorial level experience preferred (minimum 2 years).

Completion of FEMA courses (IS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800) within 3 months of hire.

HICS and NFPA 1001 certifications preferred.

Strong knowledge of Emergency Management operations, team facilitation, negotiation, written and verbal communication.

Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with Cerner or similar software.

Ability to develop business plans, manage multi‑disciplinary projects, and implement change.

Financial and statistical analysis skills and knowledge of service‑a‑lign leadership.

Education and Certifications Required:

Bachelor’s Degree. Preferred:

MS in EMS or related, CSHM, National Certified Emergency Manager, FEMA courses, and HICS Certification within 6 months of hire.
