The Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) whose mission is to enhance the fiscal and financial stability, accountability and integrity of the Government of the District of Columbia is in search of a

Tax Fraud Specialist.

This position is located in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR), Audit and Criminal Investigation Administration. The incumbent reviews and evaluates financial information located on tax returns and other accompanying documentation, identifying fraudulent activity and/or documents for referral for criminal investigation.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Evaluating tax returns and tax return information identified by the Modernized Integrated Tax System (MITS) Fraud Manager and OTR Functions.

Recommending appropriate action i.e. release refund or referral to appropriate function

Accessing and researching various applications, authentication tools, fraud detections databases and other sources available to verify the information on a questionable return.

Reviewing correspondence for identity and return verification.

Contacting third parties to verify information; and preparing reports on findings that can be shared with management.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of progressive experience performing the related duties and responsibilities such as analyzing complex tax returns or financial documents for compliance with applicable tax laws, recommending actions against tax or financial accounts and referring potential fraud violations for investigation, resolving tax or financial problems, and communicating both orally and in writing to customers and/or their representatives.
