Freedman Consulting, LLC, a mission-driven consulting firm, seeks a proactive and experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager to ensure a smooth and compliant operation of the firm’s human resources function. The HR Manager plans, executes, and manages a wide variety of essential people administration and generalist HR tasks. They will handle multiple projects concurrently in a fast‑paced environment and work across the entire organization to identify and implement strategies that enhance the firm’s HR practices.

Firm Overview Freedman Consulting offers strategic consulting services to foundations, nonprofit organizations, and public interest coalitions, partnering with many of the nation’s leading philanthropic institutions. Our work includes strategic planning and issue landscaping for major foundations, campaign advising and coordination for coalitions, and policy development for a variety of advocacy and political campaigns spanning topics such as public‑private partnerships, economic mobility, criminal justice reform, and technology policy.

Primary Responsibilities

Manage all aspects of benefits administration, including overseeing the open enrollment process, reconciling invoices, and providing ongoing guidance to employees on their benefit options.

Lead both employee onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a seamless transition for staff.

Drive and manage the execution of key staff events, including an annual all‑staff retreat, learning lunches, and regular in‑person and virtual staff gatherings.

Oversee the administration and smooth execution of the firm’s progress review process.

Collaborate with the HR & Operations team to support the firm’s professional development strategy, facilitating learning and growth opportunities for staff.

Serve as the initial point of contact for routine employee relations matters and conflicts; provide guidance on performance issues, disciplinary actions, and interpretation of firm policies.

Assist the Director, HR & Operations, in the development, review, and implementation of HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.

Monitor and enforce compliance with established firm policies, developing clear and effective staff communications to promote understanding and adherence.

Facilitate weekly all‑staff meetings to support internal communication and engagement.

Partner with the Director of HR and Operations to foster a positive employee experience and firm culture, implementing initiatives that drive high morale and engagement.

Provide oversight for HR systems, ensuring data accuracy and efficiency.

Optimize and streamline various HR processes, systems, and workflows.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate

Demonstrated experience in an HR Generalist or HR Manager role, handling benefits administration, employee lifecycle management, engagement and relations, policy and compliance management, and performance management.

Experience managing or maintaining HRIS platforms, with Rippling experience a plus.

Proven knowledge of federal and state labor laws and benefits regulations.

Experience working in a fast‑paced environment that requires proactivity, successful project planning, and execution with a high level of attention to detail.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.

Approximately 5-7 years of previous Human Resources generalist experience.

Base annual compensation range: $80,000–$90,000. In addition to base salary, Freedman Consulting offers a comprehensive benefits package and a discretionary annual bonus based on individual and firm performance.
