Position Summary:
The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating shared leadership, evidence-based practice, relationship-based care, and nursing standards. This role supports department and unit goals through daily collaboration and professional growth.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment.
Shares information and collaborates with the healthcare team to promote effective patient care.
Verifies and implements orders from physician, PA, or ANP and documents accurately.
Engages patient/family to develop an appropriate educational plan.
Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to changing needs.
Delegates tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback.
Advocates for patients, families, community, and the nursing profession.
Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards, and clinical experience to provide quality care.
Assumes role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources.
Collaborates with other nurses to provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
Serves as preceptor/resource to nursing, support staff, and students.
Continues professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (DOPR).
Current BLS/CPR and/or required unit-specific certifications.
Current AACLS certification.
Effective oral and written communication skills facilitating therapeutic relationships.
Intermediate computer skills with ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
Preferred Qualifications Emergency Department experience preferred.
