We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a Plumbing Specialization (CM‑MP) to support construction and renovation efforts for the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Washington DC VA Medical Center. The CM‑MP will administer construction, design‑build, engineering and facilities management complex‑construction projects, including pre‑design, design, procurement, construction, claims, administration and technical specialty services. The role requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a high‑level specialization in plumbing and a minimum of six (6) years of experience in both design and construction.

Responsibilities

Administer construction, design/build, and facilities management complex‑construction projects.

Provide pre‑design, design, procurement, construction, claims, administration and technical specialty services.

Proactively notify the government of any violations or risks and assist in preparing and updating the risk management plan.

Review, prepare, and make professional recommendations on scope of work documents, submittals, and proposed changes.

Take an active part in the task order Quality Assurance Surveillance Program and other contract requirements.

Apply plumbing expertise, especially in designing and maintaining high‑purity water systems and reverse‑osmosis piping.

Apply HVAC/R knowledge for maintaining sterile environments and controlling humidity levels.

Utilize mechanical system proficiency to troubleshoot and repair issues, ensuring reliability.

Understand water treatment processes and microbial control to address high bacteria level test reports.

Apply knowledge of relevant codes and regulations for healthcare facilities and laboratory environments.

Implement preventive maintenance and system optimization to minimize bacterial growth.

Apply clean‑room design and maintenance principles.

Employ problem‑solving skills to address complex issues such as persistent bacterial contamination.

Oversee renovation projects from inception to close‑out using project‑management abilities.

Provide critical review of design drawings and recommendations.

Apply energy‑efficiency and sustainability practices in water system design.

Interpret high bacteria level test reports and conduct water quality testing and analysis.

Apply sterilization and disinfection techniques for water systems.

Use instrumentation and control systems for monitoring water quality and performance.

Qualifications

U.S. Citizen and eligible for Public Trust clearance.

Ability to obtain a VA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) badge.

Rapid understanding of local, state, and federal jurisdiction requirements.

Proficiency in communication, language, and software skills with computer literacy.

Knowledge of building codes, permitting requirements, materials, methods, and construction processes.

Experience in reviewing scope of work, submittals, and proposals.

Plumbing expertise for high‑purity water systems (RO piping).

HVAC/R knowledge relevant to sterile environments.

Mechanical systems proficiency.

Understanding of water treatment and microbial control.

Knowledge of healthcare facility codes and regulations.

Experience with preventive maintenance and system optimization.

Familiarity with clean‑room design and principles.

Strong problem‑solving skills.

Project‑management experience.

Experience interpreting water quality reports and sterilization techniques.

Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems.

Salary $160,000 – $170,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
