The Deputy Director reports directly to the Chair of the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) and directs the operations of the RCA through its management structure. Under the general guidance of the Chair, the Deputy Director works closely with the Commissioners as the Commission sets RCA policies, goals, and objectives. The Deputy Director is responsible for the execution of Commission directives through the RCA’s management team. On a day‑to‑day basis, this position functions as a deputy to the Chair and acts on behalf of the Chair as manager of the overall docket caseload for the RCA, including managing the adjudicatory process, the day‑to‑day administrative operations of the RCA, and ensuring the agency complies with all statutory timelines.

The position allocated to this job class is in the exempt service in accordance with AS 39.25.110(9). Employees appointed to exempt positions are exempt from the usual recruitment process and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority.
