*About the Role*
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate *Associate Family Law Attorney* to join our growing legal team. The ideal candidate has strong advocacy skills, excellent communication abilities, and a desire to guide clients through some of the most challenging moments of their lives. This position offers immediate client interaction, litigation experience, and professional development within a supportive environment.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Represent clients in family law matters, including: * Divorce, parental rights & responsibilities * Child custody, child support, spousal support * Protection from abuse cases * Post-judgment issues and modifications * Mediation and settlement negotiations * Conduct legal research, prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, and other filings. * Attend court hearings, conferences, and mediations. * Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and third parties. * Manage a caseload with supervision and mentorship from senior attorneys. * Provide thoughtful, organized case strategy and compassionate legal advice. * Maintain detailed and timely billing records.
*Qualifications*
* J.D. from an accredited law school. * Admission to the Maine State Bar (or ability to obtain admission promptly). * 0–5 years of family law or litigation experience (family law experience preferred but not required). * Strong written and oral advocacy skills. * Ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple cases. * Empathy, professionalism, and exceptional client communication.
*Preferred Skills*
* Prior experience in family law, mediation, or domestic relations. * Comfort with courtroom practice and negotiation. * Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. * Experience with case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase, Smokeball, etc.).
