Position Summary The Department of Surgery at UNC is seeking a full‑time academic complex abdominal wall/hernia surgeon to join our Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery. The candidate may also serve as Director of the Hernia Center. The role is an open‑rank appointment (0.5–1.0 FTE) with academic duties aligned with the department’s clinical, educational, and research missions.
Responsibilities Clinical: Provide high‑quality care for patients with foregut, bariatric, colorectal, and hernia disease using open, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques.
Educational: Participate regularly in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows.
Research: Commit to a research program in clinical, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery.
Other: Team‑oriented collaboration within and beyond the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Board Certified/Board Eligible in General Surgery.
Completion of a minimally invasive/hernia fellowship.
Current North Carolina Medical License or eligibility to apply.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Robotic experience.
