Insurance Defense Trial & Litigation Associate
Addison Group is partnering with our client to identify a junior-level Litigation Associate to join a growing insurance defense team in Phoenix. This role offers early courtroom exposure and the opportunity to work on high‑exposure cases from inception through trial and appeal. The position is ideal for attorneys seeking a trial‑oriented practice within a supportive and high‑performing environment.
Base pay range $120,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr
$120,000–$140,000 annually, plus discretionary bonus potential (up to 35% based on individual performance)

Job Description As a junior Litigation Associate on the insurance defense team, you will manage and support a portfolio of approximately 25–30 active litigation matters, draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and legal briefs, and take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts. Your responsibilities will include attending hearings, mediations, and trial proceedings; assisting with trial preparation, including exhibit and witness coordination; conducting legal research using platforms such as Westlaw or LexisNexis; analyzing discovery materials, deposition transcripts, and trial records; evaluating insurance policies and coverage-related issues; developing case strategy in collaboration with senior attorneys; communicating regularly with carrier representatives and insured clients; and monitoring trials to identify potential appellate issues.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and support a portfolio of approximately 25–30 active litigation matters
Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and legal briefs
Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts
Attend hearings, mediations, and trial proceedings
Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit and witness coordination
Conduct legal research using platforms such as Westlaw or LexisNexis
Analyze discovery materials, deposition transcripts, and trial records
Evaluate insurance policies and coverage-related issues
Develop case strategy in collaboration with senior attorneys
Communicate regularly with carrier representatives and insured clients
Monitor trials and assist with identifying potential appellate issues
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Admission to the Arizona Bar or ability to obtain admission
0–3 years of litigation experience required
Prior deposition experience strongly preferred
Exposure to insurance defense or related litigation areas such as bodily injury, catastrophic loss, commercial disputes, transportation/trucking, or coverage matters
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable working on a trial-driven defense team
Full-time schedule, typically 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hybrid model with two days onsite per week
Litigation department with a small, collaborative attorney team
Position is open due to continued growth and increased case volume
Target start date: ASAP (early January preferred)
