Holtec International seeks qualified applicants in its Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) discipline. The PSA Engineer III will join a multidisciplinary team of engineers engaged in designing Holtec's flagship nuclear reactor SMR-300, managed by SMR, LLC, a subsidiary of Holtec International. Holtec International is a global turnkey supplier of equipment and systems for nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil power generation sectors of the energy industry.
Responsibilities The PSA Engineer III will be responsible for leading development of PRA modules and/or associated thermal‑hydraulic analyses that support risk‑informed design and licensing activities. Responsibilities include:
Development of Level 1 and Level 2 PRA models for internal and external events during full power and low‑power / shutdown operating modes.
For thermal‑hydraulic specialists: lead RELAP5‑3D and MELCOR modelling to simulate core and containment response for severe accident scenarios that inform PRA quantifications.
Interface with the design team to communicate and implement PSA insights, mentor junior staff, and ensure consistency and quality of all PSA deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Familiarity with thermal‑hydraulic behaviour of light‑water reactors (LWRs).
Expertise with industry codes and methods associated with PSA calculations and thermal‑hydraulic modelling (CAFTA, SAPHIRE, RiskSpectrum, RELAP5‑3D, MELCOR).
6–10 years of experience in PSA and/or thermal‑hydraulic safety analysis within the nuclear industry.
Experience with PSA specialty areas such as external hazards (fire, flood, high winds, seismic) or low‑power/shutdown modes.
Comprehensive knowledge of PSA regulatory requirements and ASME/ANS PRA Standards.
Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
Salary Salary range: $130,000.00 – $145,000.00
