Assistant/Associate Vice President, Research Administration
FSU is seeking an Assistant or Associate Vice President for Research Administration to lead the university’s research infrastructure and ensure compliance, efficiency, and excellence in research administration. (Regular, Full‑time, location: Tallahassee, FL)
Responsibilities As a member of the executive leadership team, the AVP for Research Administration provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all sponsored research activities at FSU. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Research, this role shapes the university’s research infrastructure and collaborates across the university to achieve goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Policy Development: Provide expert advice and develop goals, policies, and procedures to enhance the administration of sponsored research.
Sponsored Research Oversight: Lead the SRA team and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting faculty research.
System Leadership: Oversee the Research Administration Management Portal (RAMP) modules and drive continuous improvement of systems and processes.
Training & Development: Oversee campus‑wide education programs to enhance research administration staff capabilities.
Clinical Trials Management: Develop and manage legal, financial, and billing operations for clinical trials.
Executive Representation: Represent the Vice President for Research and serve as liaison for affiliated research centers.
Qualifications Master’s degree and six years of experience or Bachelor’s degree and eight years of experience. Four years experience at the Director level or above. Additional education may substitute for experience. Proven leadership in sponsored research administration, clinical trial management, strategic planning, and electronic research administration systems.

Collaboration and Communication: Engage stakeholders and foster relationships across campus.
Compliance and Integrity: Demonstrate deep knowledge of federal, state, and university policies and maintain high professional integrity.
Team Management and Leadership: Lead and mentor teams, delegating authority appropriately.
Preferred Qualifications
Terminal degree preferred.
Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or experience as Key Personnel on a federally funded award.
