Site Civil Engineer – Electrical Utility WSP seeks a Site Civil Engineer to join our team supporting the electrical utility service areas. Our department specializes in high‑performing projects with a focus on the future. Our goal is to deliver excellent projects and a positive experience for our clients and communities. This position reports to the Rocky Mount, Virginia location and has the ability to work remotely. Employees may travel to a POWER office for periodic meetings.

Your Impact You will be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of grading and drainage systems, including stormwater management, for both new and existing linear electrical utility sites. This includes the design of access roads and structure pads, as well as involvement in permitting processes and construction support activities.

Prepare and review engineering deliverables in support of civil/site engineering projects: AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation

Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling

Stormwater management calculations, design, and modeling

Floodplain modeling and analysis

Site layout, grading, drainage designs and drawings

Bill of materials

Construction specifications

Perform detailed engineering reviews of the work submitted by others

Provide mentorship and guidance to others

Coordinate regularly with the Project Engineer/Manager to ensure project scope, budget, and quality expectations are met

Who You Are Required Qualifications:

BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering) degree from an accredited university

Engineer‑In‑Training Certification

Experience in site design for utilities, industrial facilities, municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater management design, site grading, roadway, and utility design, sanitary sewer design and analysis, construction specification development, and development of construction bid packages

Three (3) + years of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation experience

Three (3) to ten (10) + years’ experience in civil site/design as outlined above

The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite

Candidate is legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional Engineering License, with NCEES Record and state reciprocity

Stormwater management and hydraulic modeling software (Autodesk SSA, SWMM, HEC‑RAS, etc.) experience in drainage, detention, and stormwater conveyance

Electric utility substation design experience is a plus

Managerial and leadership skills a plus

Base Salary Range: $70,000.00 – $111,700.00 per year.
