Summary The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing field operations, general safety, productivity, schedule, quality work, commissioning, and coordination with other superintendents and project leaders on the jobsite.

This position reports to the Site Manager or another designated management personnel.

Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM‑5:00 PM or 9:00 AM‑6:00 PM local time, with a hybrid schedule that includes working from the Ankeny office and from a home office.

The role requires travel of up to 100% of the time and a candidate must be authorized to work in the United States (no sponsorship provided).

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Regular attendance in accordance with the company’s attendance policy.

Direct solar/construction personnel and/or installation subcontractors to achieve project completion on schedule, within budget, and with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications.

Coordinate personnel, material, and equipment to meet schedules.

Support the team with planning and utilization of proper methods for activities.

Analyze situations, identify and forecast pertinent problems, evaluate realistic options, and recommend/implement appropriate action.

Follow and implement the company’s Health, Safety & Environmental Policy.

Identify welding certification, training, and experience appropriate for assignment scope.

Coordinate and implement resources and activities necessary to maintain a safe and quality execution.

Ensure all work undertaken is within approved scope boundaries and in full compliance.

Coordinate with pile suppliers.

Advise site teams on tooling and equipment required to complete tasks.

Identify testing required per the project’s scope of work.

Communicate with engineering parties to meet commissioning and construction requirements.

Manage manpower needed to complete project assignments.

Communicate with Surveyor and understand surveying equipment.

Maintain and supervise pile drivers and train new operators.

Coordinate with material manager for all pile staging and receiving.

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 7‑10 years of professional experience supporting the construction of major projects, preferably power stations or supply networks or other utility‑scale construction.

Solar PV or wind power project experience preferred.

Experience operating different manufacturers’ pile drivers.

Willingness to travel and relocate from project to project.

Excellent skills in MS Project or a comparable project‑management tool, and strong technical aptitude including knowledge of software development methodologies and processes.

Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite.

Fluent in written and spoken English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience reviewing mechanical manuals of installation and design technical packages, understanding top‑of‑pile designs.

Assertive, able to cope with pressure, and maintain a team‑player attitude.

Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/provincial, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.

Attention to detail and ability to work in a time‑conscious and time‑effective manner.

May have to interact with Owner’s Field Representative and outside testing agencies.

Experience operating construction equipment, pile drivers, and GPS surveying equipment.

Knowledge of installation methods for the different mechanical systems in the industry.

Hammer operators (5–10). Pile Tender crew (5–10). Shake‑out staging crew (5). String line top of pile (5). Transport hammers from site to site. Calibrate hammers. Preventative maintenance, grease, fuel, warranty. QC inspection. Drawing as‑built pile locations and table heights. Supervise pile pull testing & refusal logs.

Travel: up to 75% as needed.

Physical Demands

Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.

Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.).

Able to walk or move continuously while carrying 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials; assistance may be required for items over 50 lbs.

Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.

Must be able to work extended hours on feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel). Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.

Requires repetitive movement.
