INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION ENGINEER

Compensation:
$110 - $140K

Your Role:
The Industrial Automation Engineer will maintain, improve, and standardize plant automation systems to ensure reliability, data accuracy and system uptime. This hands‑on role covers PLCs, HMIs, historians, and control hardware, supporting our move toward open‑source SCADA solutions and smarter manufacturing.
What You’ll Do:
Audit, document, and standardize existing PLC, HMI, and historian systems.
Troubleshoot logic, alarms, and communication issues across automation networks.
Maintain and improve data collection, historian reliability, and reporting accuracy.
Work directly with wiring, sensors, relays, and control panels on the production floor.
Ensure accurate data flow between PLCs, HMIs, historians, and MES/ERP interfaces.
Collaborate with other engineers, operators, and IT to improve visibility and reduce downtime.
Develop quality and easy to understand screens on HMIs.
Create consistent documentation (wiring diagrams, network maps, PLC tag databases, and system manuals).
Develop and maintain ETL pipelines to extract and analyze historian data.
After stabilization, lead efforts to migrate toward next‑generation, open‑source SCADA solutions (Node‑RED, Ignition, MQTT, InfluxDB, etc.).
What You’ll Bring:
3+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field is a plus.
Deep understanding of Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell PLCs, FactoryTalk systems.
Ability to interpret and troubleshoot control logic, electrical drawings, and network architectures.
Experience with MODBUS, OPC UA, and Ethernet/IP communications.
Proven ability to independently learn, reverse‑engineer, and document complex industrial systems.
Familiarity with scripting (Python) for data collection, reporting, or automation.
Exposure to Linux, Docker, or open‑source SCADA frameworks is a plus.
Hands‑on mindset, attention to detail, and ownership of the systems you maintain.
