Position Overview The Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC) within the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences (CAES) seeks a motivated and creative student worker to support public relations and communications efforts. This role offers hands‑on experience in media relations, storytelling, and digital communications, while building a portfolio of published work.

Duties & Responsibilities

Research opportunities for external visibility (news and industry publications)

Help maintain media and external stakeholder contact lists and track press coverage.

Track local, regional, and national media outlets for coverage related to agriculture, environmental sciences, and higher education.

Research upcoming editorial calendars, special issues and media opportunities for faculty and student features.

Identify emerging topics and thought leaders in agricultural and environmental sciences to inform PR strategy.

Support PR staff with day‑to‑day communications tasks and special projects.

Other related duties on an as‑needed basis, per interests/experience.

Qualifications

Strong writing and research skills.

Knowledge of AP writing style.

Competence in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn project‑management tools.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

Students with experience studying or working in public relations, agricultural communication, journalism, media studies, or marketing are preferred.

Previous experience reporting for a newspaper, broadcast, radio, online or other media outlet is a plus.

Physical Demands & Requirements Require sitting at a computer workstation for long periods of time. Driving is required as needed.
