Advertising/Public Relations OR Broadcast and Digital Journalism Assistant Professor

The College and Department invite applications for an Assistant Professor of Advertising/Public Relations or Broadcast and Digital Journalism. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses, advise students, conduct scholarly research or creative work, and serve on department, college, and university committees.
Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses in Advertising/Public Relations or Broadcast/Digital Journalism.
Advise students and provide mentorship.
Conduct scholarly research or creative work.
Serve on department, college, and university committees.
Engage in community service and attend major events.
Faculty teach 12 WTUs per semester. Contract provides a course release each semester for the first two years and allows for time reductions for scholarship. Specific assignments depend on departmental needs and the candidate’s background.

Qualifications
Required Education: Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or Advertising, or a closely related discipline OR
M.A. in the field plus five years of professional experience.
Required Experience: Professional experience in advertising, public relations, broadcast journalism or digital journalism.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.
Evidence of active scholarship, creative and/or professional activities.
Commitment to undergraduate teaching and student success.
Minimum one year of university/college-level teaching experience (TA roles considered).
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in related discipline (or complete by August 1 2026).
Background in AI, digital communication, statistics, data analytics or related journalism areas.
Specialization in a particular discipline (e.g., agriculture, healthcare, investigative, multimedia).
Evidence of an active research agenda or creative works in the field.

Additional Information Tenure-Track Faculty gain a clear path to tenure through the University’s Probationary Plan Process. Compensation: $6,500–$6,800 per month (12 monthly payments). Competitive benefits package within the CSU System.
