Overview We’re hiring an Assistant Professor of Media, Communications and Journalism. This tenure‑track position in the Department of Media, Communications and Journalism at Fresno State focuses on teaching undergraduate courses, advising students, conducting scholarly research, and participating in service‑related activities.
Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses in advertising and public relations OR broadcast and digital journalism.
Advise students and support their success.
Conduct scholarly research and creative work in the field.
Participate in service‑related activities for the department and university.
Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or Advertising or a closely related discipline, OR M.A. in the same disciplines and five years of professional experience in a related field.
Applicants nearing completion of a Ph.D. in the relevant fields may be considered; the degree must be completed by August 1, 2026.
Professional experience in advertising, public relations, broadcast journalism, or digital journalism.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.
Evidence of active scholarship, creative and/or professional activities.
Minimum of one year of university or college‑level teaching experience (teaching assistantship will be considered).
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in the relevant disciplines.
Teaching and/or research background in artificial intelligence, digital communication, statistics, and/or data analytics OR experience in data journalism, sports journalism, multimedia journalism, investigative reporting, or broadcast and digital news production.
Specialization in a specific Advertising/Public Relations discipline or a specific Journalism discipline.
Evidence or potential for an active research agenda and publication in the field, or in creative works within broadcast/digital journalism.
