The Native American Achievement Center (NAAC) aims to help recruit and retain American Indian students at Montana State University Billings (MSUB). NAAC serves as an advocate for students pursuing post‑secondary educational opportunities at MSUB, extension services, and College by providing academic support, while also encouraging their individual, social, cultural, and emotional growth. The Elder‑in‑Residence program at Montana State University Billings within NAAC strengthens Native American student success and sense of belonging by integrating cultural traditions and Elder knowledge into the campus experience. By bringing respected Elders to campus each semester, the program integrates traditional knowledge, language, and healing practices into academic life. The member for this project will be creating systems and tools for the Elder in Residence program for long‑term sustainability, ultimately boosting post‑secondary achievement and breaking the cycle of poverty for Montana's Native students.
Responsibilities
Create new tools and systems to sustain the Elder in Residence program.
Measure the impact of Elder In Residence programming through the creation of surveys, templates, and gathering community feedback.
Build systems that aid collaboration among campus and community stakeholders (Elders, NAAC, faculty liaisons, and student groups).
