MCNCE VISTA- Opportunity Link Local Food Systems Coordinator
Opportunity Link, a non‑profit based in Havre, MT, partners with Aaniih Nakoda College to increase the capacity of local food growers and traditional food systems in the Rocky Boy and Fort Belknap communities. The goal is to break the cycle of poverty by promoting value‑added food products as an economic opportunity for low‑income individuals. The VISTA member will support this mission by assessing barriers to commercialization, developing culturally appropriate workshops, and leading outreach campaigns to elevate food production as a viable livelihood.
Member Duties After orientation, the VISTA member will:
Communicate with project partners (local nonprofits, Montana State University Northern, Aaniiih Nakoda College, Stone Child College, and agricultural businesses).
Create a series of culturally appropriate workshops on growing and producing local and traditional foods across the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy Reservations.
Develop training modules tailored to identified needs.
Work with partners to build capacity for food‑producing operations, enabling a stable income source for local farmers.
Lead an awareness campaign to promote food production as an economic opportunity in the broader community.
