Information Technology Associate
California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES)
Support Cal OES applications and systems by providing Tier I and Tier II computer support within a statewide information technology enterprise environment. The IT Associate demonstrates proficiency in supporting mission‑critical applications and assists staff through hands‑on and telephone technical assistance while maintaining the highest levels of customer service.
Responsibilities
Provide Tier I and Tier II computer support across the Cal OES enterprise environment.
Maintain and troubleshoot Microsoft platforms, Lotus Notes, and other enterprise technologies.
Offer quick incident reporting and resolution in a fast‑paced, security‑first environment.
Follow established security policies and procedures to preserve information asset integrity.
Support a broad range of hardware and software products including desktop and laptop hardware, mobile devices, printers, and peripheral equipment.
Assist Cal OES staff with everyday technical issues and provide on‑site help.
Participate in 24/7 operational support during Emergency Operations Center activations and other high‑pressure operational periods.
Adhere to emergency on‑call and shift‑work requirements when needed.
Required Qualifications
Professional experience or coursework in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience supporting Windows‑based operating systems and State desktop applications.
Working knowledge of desktop and laptop hardware, mobile devices, printers, and peripheral equipment.
Basic networking knowledge (LAN/WAN, VPN, wireless).
Experience providing Tier 1 and/or Tier 2 technical support in a help desk or service desk environment.
Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot software, hardware, and peripherals in accordance with departmental standards.
Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, including user access controls, data protection, and security awareness.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Customer service orientation with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical staff.
Organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple support requests and competing priorities.
Dependability, professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in a State of California department or public‑sector environment.
Familiarity with Cal OES systems, emergency management tools, or State IT policies.
Understanding of IT service‑management concepts such as ITIL practices.
Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving operational requirements.
Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances or access credentials.
