Facilities Maintenance Technician Location: Traverse City, MI

Pay: $36.39/hr • Hours: M-F 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Job Summary The Facilities Maintenance Technician for Materne North America is responsible for performing maintenance for the plant utility equipment, buildings, and grounds. Duties include preventive maintenance checks, repair work, and operating the utility equipment in a food‑industry plant environment.

Responsibilities & Tasks Computer Work

Completion of work orders and documenting reports in the CMMS

Document inventory check‑outs and create purchase requisitions in the CMMS

Login to automated reporting systems for air compressors and other utilities systems

Understand and operate equipment via HMI’s for waste water, air compressors, and incoming water

Refrigeration

Perform equipment inspections

Check daily oil levels, temperatures, pressure, and other equipment status

Waste Water Treatment

Maintain waste water treatment plant building and equipment including pumps, motors, valves, piping, floats, controls, flow meters, and chemical pumps & tanks (confined space entry required)

Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment in WWTP

Clear paths for winter ground‑water samples

Maintain waste water rapid infiltration basins

Water Treatment

Perform daily checks of well pressures, tanks, plumbing, and temperatures

Repair any leaks

Perform daily checks of equipment in the green sand iron removal building

Check water softener hardness and iron levels of outgoing water

Change out water filters

Gather and record daily meter readings from water supply for the water softeners in the process and boiler feed system

Perform quarterly and annual sampling of the water supply

Install new water supply as needed for new processes

Maintain the chlorine injection system

Air Supply System & Air Compressors

Complete preventive and correct air compressor maintenance (daily and annual)

Maintain refrigerated air dryers and air filters

Interact with and maintain flow meters, computerized monitoring system, and moisture monitors

Boilers, Condensate, & Steam Systems

Perform daily safety checks

Check water flow, meter readings, temperatures, pressures, and boiler conditions daily

Maintain deaerator system including feed water pumps, suction strainers, and PRV/restriction controls

Monitor boiler, condensate, and water softener water analysis

Perform preventive maintenance on floats, controls, condensate pumps, steam traps, and valves

Repair steam leaks on piping as necessary

Prepare for annual inspections by shutting off, tearing down, and cleaning boilers

Start‑up and operate the natural‑gas boilers

Natural Gas & Nitrogen

Complete weekly meter readings

Maintain piping after the meter

Perform equipment maintenance or replacement

Fire System

Work with contractor on troubleshooting and repairs

Perform weekly churn testing on fire suppression pump and system

Ensure heater and propane for emergency generator are maintained, and exercise monthly

General Buildings & Grounds

Complete building maintenance as requested

Roof maintenance as needed

Meter readings on plant electrical equipment

Electrical repairs and troubleshooting

Preventive and corrective maintenance on dock locks, levelers, overhead doors, and man doors

Fix floors and drains

Preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC units, air handling equipment, and ducts

Maintain septic systems

Lighting maintenance throughout the facility

Preventive and corrective maintenance on battery chargers and associated equipment for charging stations

Repair warehouse racking

Key Performance Indicators

Amount of work orders completed

Uptime of utilities equipment to support the production facility

Position Requirements Education High School Diploma

Experience

1–3 years of previous facilities and utilities maintenance

Previous experience in the food industry is a plus

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS

Skills

Adequate organizational skills

Adequate communication skills

Ability to express priorities and needs in both written and verbal form

Willingness to receive vendor‑supplied training for utilities technology to further education

Basic understanding of operating and maintaining utilities equipment

Formal education and training on maintaining utilities equipment (a plus)

Strong mechanical and/or electrical background

Strong troubleshooting ability

Physical & Travel Requirements

Must work a minimum of 8 hours per day and be on feet for extended periods of time
