Performs intermediate‑skilled trade work by maintaining, repairing, modifying, and installing structures in buildings and facilities, and performing related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Facilities Manager.

Performs a variety of skilled trades work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and completes and maintains records associated with assigned work orders;

Maintains the County's heating and cooling equipment and performs preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment;

Performs minor electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs, repairs and maintains electrical systems and components, and repairs roof leaks and ceilings;

Inspects fire alarms, extinguishers, air conditioning filters, motors, belts, etc., and troubleshoots potential problems and conducts repairs when necessary;

Prepares surfaces for painting, paints walls, ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets, and equipment, and paints interior and exterior building fixtures;

Assists in the maintenance and repair of motorized equipment;

Assists in the renovation of office spaces and storage, helps set up rooms for meetings, and moves office furniture and equipment as necessary;

Prepares maintenance records, logs, and reports;

Ensures security of the building after working hours;

Inventories and purchases supplies and materials as needed and serves as the contact for contractors;

Responds to emergency calls for building repairs as needed;

Performs other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in general building maintenance work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

General knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in building maintenance and repair;

General knowledge of hazards and safety precautions associated with the type of work assigned;

Skill in the use of hand and power tools of the trade;

Ability to recognize and diagnose problems;

Ability to follow oral and written instructions;

Ability to make decisions within scope of responsibility;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking, hearing, use of hands and fingers, handling or feeling, frequently requires climbing, balancing, reaching with hands and arms, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, smelling, pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas orally; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels; work requires visually inspecting small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non‑weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non‑weather), exposure to extreme heat (non‑weather), exposure to vibration, wearing a self‑contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
