Responsibilities
Utilize a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and grounds.
Perform minor plumbing repairs of limited difficulty such as tightening or replacing in‑kind fittings and fixtures.
Perform minor carpentry repairs of limited difficulty to buildings and quarters. Construct, install, repair and replace such items as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets.
Perform routine maintenance at different sites and visitor facilities, including cleaning restrooms and making minor repairs as needed.
Receive, unload and process incoming shipments according to established procedures, and report discrepancies and damage.
May perform other duties such as painting equipment, masonry work, roofing, welding or assisting higher‑grade workers with maintenance of utility systems in the facility.
Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites.
Physical Demands Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms; requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Work may be required in inclement weather and/or wearing protective equipment and clothing that can be heavy and uncomfortable.
Requirements
U.S. Citizenship required.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
May be required to operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties; annual affidavit and driver's license proof required.
Must wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards; uniform allowance provided.
May be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
Travel, transportation & relocation expenses not paid; relocation expenses are employee’s responsibility.
May be required to travel for up to 3 nights per month to Olympic NP, Haleakala NP.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old with high‑school graduation or equivalent, completed vocational training, or currently enrolled in secondary school.
Qualifications
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (Screen‑Out).
Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
Use of measuring equipment.
Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprint reading.
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
Knowledge of materials.
