Minnesota & Upper Midwest | Direct Hire | Compensation $35-50/hour
Konik is partnered with a leading heavy civil contractor seeking a Civil Crew Supervisor to oversee field operations across base/gravel, grading, and underground utility (storm sewer) crews. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for coordinating crews, managing daily work activities, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring work is performed to grade, spec, and production goals. Projects span highways, roadways, civil infrastructure, and large site developments across MN, ND, SD, IA, and MT.
This is an ideal fit for a field leader with strong technical skills, the ability to read plans and grade stakes, and experience supervising high-performing crews in a heavy civil environment.
Civil Crew Supervisor Highlights
Lead and supervise crews performing grading, base/gravel, and underground utility installation.
Coordinate materials, trucking, equipment, survey/layout, and daily production goals.
Ensure work meets grade tolerance, compaction, alignment, and overall quality specs.
Maintain strict safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, trench safety, DOT).
Communicate daily with Project Managers, operators, and dispatch to maintain workflow.
Complete daily reports, track quantities, and provide updates on progress and challenges.
Civil Crew Supervisor Responsibilities
Direct daily crew activities including excavation, grading, base placement, pipe installation, and compaction.
Interpret blueprints, project plans, cross-sections, and survey/grade stakes to verify accuracy.
Oversee trenching, bedding, pipe alignment, backfill, fine grading, and subgrade preparation.
Conduct safety meetings, enforce PPE and safe trench/excavation practices, and correct hazards.
Coordinate with trucking, survey teams, subcontractors, and equipment operators for efficient workflow.
Track materials, labor, and equipment hours; submit daily reports and production logs.
Inspect work zones for quality, slope/drainage compliance, tolerances, and environmental requirements.
Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in heavy civil, grading, earthwork, or underground utilities.
1–2 years in a supervisory, lead operator, or foreman role preferred.
Ability to read construction drawings, blueprints, grade stakes, and survey data.
Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred and clean driving record required.
Working knowledge of OSHA, trench safety, soil compaction, and earthwork methods.
Proficiency with GPS/laser-guided equipment and grade-check tools preferred.
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, standing, and working on uneven terrain.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, dust, noise).
Typical schedule 70+ hours/week during construction season; overtime/overnights as needed.
Travel required to job sites across MN, ND, SD, IA, and MT.
