The Epstein School seeks a Middle School Principal to begin July 1, 2026. Serving grades 5–8, the Middle School is a transformative period in a student’s journey, balancing increasing academic rigor with social-emotional growth, leadership development, and joyful Jewish life. The Epstein Middle School Principal serves as the division’s instructional and cultural leader, overseeing academic programming, faculty supervision and development, student life, and family partnership.
Reporting directly to the head of school, the middle school principal is a core member of the school’s educational leadership team and plays a key role in advancing Epstein’s mission, values, and whole-child approach to education. This leader will work closely with faculty, students, and families to ensure a cohesive, supportive, and developmentally appropriate middle school experience.
SPECIFIC DUTIES Divisional Leadership and Academic Program
Oversee all aspects of the Epstein Middle School academic program (grades 5–8), ensuring alignment with the school’s mission, values, and whole-child philosophy.
Ensure a cohesive, developmentally appropriate curriculum that balances academic rigor with social-emotional learning and leadership development.
Collaborate with academic leaders to ensure continuity and alignment across the K–8 educational experience.
Monitor student progress and program effectiveness using both qualitative and quantitative measures.
Faculty Leadership and Development
Oversee the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and professional growth of middle school faculty.
Foster a collaborative faculty culture grounded in reflection, growth, and shared responsibility.
Lead divisional meetings and support grade-level teams to strengthen instructional practice and alignment.
Partner with school leadership on faculty recruitment, onboarding, and retention.
Student Support and Well-Being
Ensure every student is known, supported, and challenged academically, socially, and emotionally.
Collaborate with advisors, counselors, learning specialists, and administrators to support student care and behavioral systems.Promote advisory, SEL, and leadership programming appropriate to adolescent learners.
Uphold clear, consistent expectations around student conduct and community values.
Community and Family Partnership
Build strong, trusting relationships with families through proactive, transparent, and empathetic communication.
Serve as a visible and engaged leader at school events, Jewish celebrations, and community gatherings.
Partner with admissions to articulate the strengths of the Epstein Middle School program and support enrollment and retention efforts.
Serve as a member of the school’s educational leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and schoolwide initiatives.
Support budgeting, scheduling, and operational planning for the middle school division.
Model Epstein’s mission and values and actively contribute to the life of the school community.
Perform other duties as assigned by the head of school.
QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES Professional Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred
Demonstrated leadership experience in middle school education, curriculum, or school administration
Deep understanding of adolescent development and effective middle school pedagogy
Successful teaching experience and strong instructional practice
Experience partnering effectively with families around academic and student-life matters
Leadership and Personal Qualities
A relational, collaborative leadership style grounded in empathy, clarity, and professionalism
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to build trust with students, faculty, and families
A steady, thoughtful approach to team development and divisional leadership
Commitment to joyful, values-based education and whole-child development
Alignment with the mission, values, and culture of The Epstein School
