Position Vacancy Announcement Florida A&M University's Department of Campus Safety and Security is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for a Police Communications Operator vacancy.
Responsibilities Non-sworn law enforcement work operating and monitoring telephone and radio transmissions via a two-way police radio and computer systems in a public safety communications center. Receive and evaluate calls from the public requesting police assistance of both emergency and non-emergency nature; receive and transmit messages to and from FAMU law enforcement officers on complaints, crimes in progress and general police communications; refer callers to appropriate agencies or extensions; and use a computer terminal to update and monitor the unit status, as well as, transmit requests for emergency services.
Monitor surveillance cameras and building alarms regarding fires and illegal entry and dispatch the same to appropriate personnel; monitor the police scanner for emergency situations occurring in and around the general campus area as well as the inner city; relay messages regarding the safety and conditions of police officers performing hazardous duties; and make written records of all radio and telephone transmissions, messages, and complaints to and from officers and the general public as required by the F.C.C. and the FAMU Police Department.
Operate the FCIC/NCIC criminal computer according to rules and regulations established by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and follows all rules and regulations as stated in the Communications standard operating pros (SOP) manual; and operate a personal computer system that provides information from criminal justice information system (CTIS) and the University, for student records and employee addresses, housing information and auto registration.
Assist in the operation and transmission of the Everbridge Notification and the Federal Warning Systems; operate the T.D.D. machine for the hearing impaired; work special details as needed; and perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency and two years of work experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Successful completion of the State 911 Certification and NCIC/FCIC systems tests are required within six months of hire.

Anticipated Salary Range Anticipated salary is $42,000.
Licenses and Certifications Currently certified as a 911 Telecommunication Operator or successful completion of the State 911 Certification and NCIC/FCIC systems tests within six months of hire. Also, have a valid State of Florida driver license.
Pay Plan This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
Conditions of Employment Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education. An official college transcript, a high school diploma, or other educational documents must be submitted, where applicable, at the time of employment. Only United States (U.S.) citizens or aliens who have a legal right to work in the U.S. are eligible for employment. Federal law requires proof of your authorization to work in the United States. You will be required to provide proof of your identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of employment. Section 110.1128, Florida Statutes, prohibits employment by the State (including re-hire after a break in service) of any male born after October 1, 1962, who failed to register with the Selective Service System, under the provisions of the U.S. Military Selective Service Act, during the person’s period of eligibility (ages 18 through 25). Additionally, if currently employed by the State, this law prohibits the promotion of such person. You may be required to provide documentation.
Schedule FAMU Police Dispatch Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. Employee must be able to work rotating shifts. PCOs are considered essential employee.
