Position Purpose Responsible for the origination of mortgage loans, home equity loans, and lines of credit. Conducts initial pre‑qualification interviews and prepares complete loan application packages and necessary documentation. Conveys policies for extension of credit in accordance with Credit Union and secondary investor guidelines. Serves members, builders, developers, and realtors promptly and professionally. Receives, evaluates, and reviews loan applications. Obtains and verifies necessary information and underwrites and closes mortgage loans. Provides general Credit Union information and cross‑sells services. Assists Mortgage Loan personnel as necessary.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties Service
Assumes responsibility for supporting, demonstrating, and promoting the Credit Union SERVICE culture. Support, Educate, Respect, Value, Innovate, Communicate, Empower. Consistently demonstrates a commitment to the Credit Union’s principles of equity and belonging, by modeling inclusive behaviors, proactively managing bias and supporting JHFCU’s diverse employee base and membership.
Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for the effective and professional completion of all phases of the Mortgage lending process.
Responds to member inquiries and provides information about first mortgage and home equity products.
Evaluates members’ individual financial situations and suggests appropriate products to address their needs.
Pre‑qualify members for purchase money loans.
Accurately and completely enters mortgage applications into the mortgage processing software.
Prepares and provides loan disclosures.
Processes mortgages and satisfies loan standards, which includes collecting needed documents from borrowers and third parties and interacting with borrowers, realtors, and title companies.
Underwrites and approves mortgage loans, including underwriting first mortgages to Fannie Mae standards.
Accurately prepares closing documents and instructions.
Follows up with outside sources of outstanding documents.
Conducts settlement for home equity products.
Performs post‑closing reviews to verify closing instructions were followed. Reviews information for completeness and accuracy. Clarifies missing or questionable information. Follows up with outside sources of outstanding documents.
Communicates status of loans to the buyer, seller, realtor, and Title Company.
Advise members of loan approval or denial. Explain loan denials precisely and clearly to members.
Completes lending operations in accordance with established Credit Union policies and legal requirements.
Ensures that lending operations are conducted in accordance with established Credit Union policies and are legally compliant. Ensures that loan requests are properly documented.
Makes suggestions to improve guidelines and policies in accordance with evolving department and Credit Union guidance, regulations, legal requirements and industry trends.
Maintains department and loan files and records, coordinates files for audits and sends files for scanning or off site hard storage.
Resolves (or refers) requests and problems promptly and courteously. Answers member loan questions regarding applications in the process of approval.
Maintains and conveys the Credit Union's professional reputation.
Completes required reports, related documents and compiles information promptly and accurately, and in compliance with department and Credit Union guidelines and policies.
Keeps the VP of Real Estate Lending and other lenders informed of loan activities and progress toward established objectives, and of any significant problems.
Supports JHFCU’s financial coaching program.
Completes intake process for members interested in or referred to JHFCU’s financial coaching program.
Conducts initial pre‑coaching reviews with members interested in or referred to JHFCU’s financial coaching program, to include initial credit report review, budget review, and goal setting, and facilitates effective transitions to a designated coach.
Other Duties
Remains compliant with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to BSA and the USA Patriot Act.
Responsible for any additional duties and/or responsibilities as assigned.

Education/Certification and Experience
An Associate’s Degree (AA) and college coursework in the fields of Business, Finance or Accounting.
At least five years of progressive lending experience in a Credit Union or similar financial institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.
An understanding of Credit Union loan services, policies, procedures and related legal and regulatory standards and required loan documentation is essential.
Advanced knowledge of residential lending practices.
NMLS License is required.
