Chief Boiler Room Engineer - Full Time - Day

Job Overview: The Chief Boiler Room Engineer coordinates, directs, and supervises employees engaged in the operation and maintenance of steam generation, central air conditioning, chilled water system, and all units it supplies, along with power plant equipment at the Perth Amboy Division.
Responsibilities
Manage the operation of two 600 HP Clever Brooks boilers, including blowdown, cleaning, fuel handling, and chemical testing.
Ensure proper steam pressure and efficient fuel/steam usage by operating and sizing steam traps, monitoring condensate stations, and maintaining boiler burners and economizer for optimal efficiency.
Log blow‑downs, water treatment, fuel usage, and steam production daily and produce monthly reports.
Check and enforce safety regulations, fire prevention standards, and maintenance protocols.
Coordinate ordering of fuel, treatment chemicals, and repair supplies within authorization limits.
Maintain licensing credentials and equipment compliance.
Manage operation of three chillers and associated condensing water towers, logging pressures and chemical feedings.
Assist with winterizing, spring start‑up, and emergency calls of chillers via contracting vendor.
Maintain air handling units, ensuring preventive maintenance and cleanliness.
Log PSI for compressed air (100 lb) and maintain suction compressor (26 inches vacuum) and plant air compressor.
Maintain water softener logs, softness levels, and regeneration of salt in brine tank.
Maintain city water booster pumps (70‑80 PSI) and monitor hot water temperature (≤120°F).
Ensure emergency generators are in operational condition, conduct weekly testing, and maintain logs of operation and repairs.
Interview sales representatives for equipment procurement, review timesheets, and schedule holiday/vacation to avoid operational interference.
Recruit, hire, and evaluate personnel; set performance standards and conduct performance appraisals.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned; adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
Blue Seal Operating Engineer License.
Minimum five years experience in boiler room operations; or four years boiler room experience with one year maintenance and one year refrigeration experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
Preferred
Red Seal Operating Engineer License.
Licenses & Certifications
New Jersey Blue Seal License.
Red Seal Operating Engineer License (preferred).
Compensation Starting at $106,329.60 annually.
