Essential Job Duties This position will conduct research to characterize the role of thrips proteins in virus acquisition and transmission by thrips. The scientist will perform experiments such as RNAi of thrips genes, RNA extraction, qRT‑PCR, immunolabeling and colocalization analysis, and virus acquisition and transmission assays.

Minimum Experience/Education: 4‑year degree or equivalent training/experience

Department Required Skills:

Experience with TSWV and thrips transmission biology

Microinjection and RNAi of thrips

qRT‑PCR analysis of gene expression

Molecular biology skills (cloning, sequence analysis)

Expression of genes in insect cells and colocalization

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:

M.S. in plant pathology

Required License or Certification:

Valid driver’s license

Valid NC Driver's License required? Yes
