About the Role A dynamic, student-centered charter school in Northwest Washington, D.C., is seeking an enthusiastic
Middle School Science Teacher (6th Grade Earth Science)
to join our instructional team for the 2025 school year. This full-time, hybrid position includes on-campus instruction combined with remote planning and/or asynchronous responsibilities.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an educator passionate about Earth Science and committed to helping middle school students develop curiosity, critical thinking skills, and a strong foundation in scientific inquiry.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, standards‑aligned instruction in
6th grade Earth Science
within a hybrid learning environment.
Teach core Earth Science concepts, including geology, weather and climate, Earth systems, space science, and environmental science.
Design hands‑on investigations, labs, and inquiry‑based lessons that promote scientific reasoning and problem‑solving.
Integrate real‑world applications, technology, data analysis, and multimedia resources into instruction.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment—both in‑person and online—that encourages curiosity and collaboration.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs and multilingual learners.
Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth and mastery of science standards.
Collaborate with grade‑level and science department colleagues to develop cohesive units, labs, and assessments.
Maintain consistent communication with families regarding student progress and engagement.
Participate in professional development and contribute positively to the school community.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Earth Science, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of classroom teaching experience, preferably in middle school science.
Experience designing standards‑aligned, inquiry‑based science instruction.
Skills
Strong understanding of
NGSS
or state science standards and middle school science pedagogy.
Ability to create engaging, hands‑on learning experiences in both in‑person and virtual settings.
Effective classroom management and strong organizational skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Commitment to equity, inclusivity, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
