Senior Social Worker – U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts are up to $200,000 depending on the EDRP program office decision.

Pay Range $97,744.00/yr – $127,073.00/yr

Summary The Senior Social Worker will provide advanced practice services within the ICMHR program, including case management, counseling, and clinical support for Veterans with severe mental illness. The role requires advanced licensure, evidence-based practice expertise, and the ability to serve as a subject matter expert and supervisor.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in social work from a CSWE‑accredited school.

Licensure or certification by a state to independently practice social work at the master’s level.

Advanced practice licensure or an equivalent postgraduate training that includes supervised experience.

Minimum two years of experience after advanced practice licensure; at least one year equivalent to the GS‑11 grade level in a specialized area.

Demonstrated advanced clinical skills, judgment, and evidence‑based interventions such as SST, IMR, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, or ACT.

Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading quality improvement initiatives is preferred.

Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Eastern Colorado; frequent travel often required.

Basic Requirements

United States citizenship (non‑citizens may be considered only when no qualified citizens are available).

Proficiency in spoken and written English per 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).

Doctorate in social work may not substitute a master’s degree.

Compliance with criminal conflict of interest laws and Executive Branch Standards of Conduct.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS‑12; the grade for selection is GS‑12.

Duties

Participate on a multi‑disciplinary team that meets daily to serve Veterans with complex mental health and co‑morbid disorders.

Provide case management for a caseload of Veterans in the ICMHR program, many at elevated risk for suicide or psychosis.

Remain informed of best practices within mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation.

Provide training to staff on coding, CPRS documentation, and best practices.

Accompany interns or junior social workers on home or community visits.

Model advanced practice and offer consultation to less experienced workers.

Manage the most complex Veterans within the program based on acuity and diagnosis.

Serve as the subject‑matter expert and lead social worker for the assigned team.

Engage in process improvement, supervision of advanced‑practice licensure candidates, mentoring, committee participation, and rollout of evidence‑based practices.

Act as surrogate to the ICMHR Program Manager for CPRS purposes, including cosigning notes and providing clinical guidance.

Conduct evidence‑based, recovery‑oriented practices such as SST, IMR, CBT, and Life Goals.

Collect and submit ICMHR participant data per NEPEC evaluation procedures.

Coordinate care, advocate for Veterans, and link them to VA Medical Centers, regional offices, and community agencies.

Maintain a current valid state driver’s license.

Strictly adhere to criminal conflict‑of‑interest laws and executive standards.

Participate in ICMHR program conference calls and attendance at National ICMHR training.

Follow VHA handbooks, local policies, SOPs, and Joint Commission documentation requirements.

Assist in program planning, development, and policy recommendation.

Perform related duties as assigned.
