Shipping and Receiving Material Handler

About Us Insteel Industries, established in 1953, started from humble beginnings, embraces strong values, and has its Home Office in Mount Airy, NC. We are the nation's largest manufacturer of steel wire reinforcing products for concrete construction applications. We manufacture and market prestressed concrete (PC) strand and welded wire reinforcement, including engineered structural mesh, concrete pipe reinforcement, and standard welded wire reinforcement for concrete reinforcement applications. The company operates eleven manufacturing facilities in nine states.

Schedule Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:00pm (will need to work until 4:30pm when needed)
About You The person we are looking for is safety conscious, success driven, and technically astute in forklift operation. You have exemplary operating skills and knowledge of loading and shipping functions, and you are a valuable member of the team and a key player in the success of the business.
Position Snapshot
Have knowledge of safety equipment and safety procedures for shipping/receiving operations
Maintain good housekeeping/neat work area while loading and unloading material
Possess or be able to obtain a forklift operator certification
Safely operate equipment in a close‑quarter shipping yard with various materials, trucks, and employees present
Load flatbed trucks and handle various materials in various sizes, shapes, and weights
Empty and monitor scrap dumpsters; contact scrap dealer when needed
Stage raw material (steel rod) at appropriate machines
Have appropriate computer skills to make entries of shipping material and cycle count quantities into the appropriate systems
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Visually check quality of finished product
Must possess a high attention to detail, be able to work closely with production employees, and train others as needed
Requirements and Education
High School Diploma or equivalent; ability to complete simple forms and understand simple written instructions; ability to perform simple arithmetic involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals
An equivalent combination of education and work‑related experience may be acceptable
A minimum of two (2) years’ forklift experience required in heavy material handling and moving responsibilities

Competitive base pay from $16.00 up to $19.75 per hour
