Community of Hearts Stress Less Vista Coordinator
role at
AmeriCorps .
The Stress Less Student VISTA Coordinator will build Community of Hearts capacity to strengthen classroom environments and support the mental health of K‑8 students in low‑income schools across Kent County. This project helps break the cycle of poverty by improving student emotional stability, school performance, and long‑term educational outcomes. Stress and trauma are major barriers to student success and may lead to absenteeism, poor grades, behavioral challenges, and reduced future earning potential. By expanding access to stress‑reduction tools and mental‑wellness support, this project increases the likelihood of academic success and long‑term financial independence for students in poverty. The VISTA will help build partnerships with school districts, public, private, and charter schools, and youth‑serving organizations. The member will create a working database of districts, schools, PTA/PTO groups, after‑school programs, teachers, principals, and support staff to support outreach and future expansion into classrooms with high free and reduced lunch populations. The VISTA will also support development of curriculum materials and volunteer‑guided classroom presentations for stress‑reduction training. Activities include outreach calls, school visits, meetings, research, scheduling, and follow‑up. All activities are entirely capacity building and will leave behind sustainable systems that expand program reach, reinforce student mental health supports, and strengthen learning environments across Kent County.
