The VISTA member will alleviate poverty by the creation and implementation of sustainable programs such as the Moby Max online tutoring program that contribute to our mission of empowering low‑income youth to win in every area of their lives. In our local community of Forrest and Perry counties in Mississippi, the beneficiaries of this project will be youth who attend low‑performing schools and lack proficiency in reading and math. The VISTA member will fight poverty by providing assistance to these underserved, low‑income families that consists of: single parent families, families of youth with an incarcerated parent, and youth being raised by grandparents. The VISTA member will enhance education skills, setting goals that strengthen their ability to make strong financial decisions to help bring them and their families out of poverty. VISTA member will encourage and nurture the development of youth by providing building blocks and pathways that enable low‑income youth to be successful, contributing members of society.
Member Duties The Literacy Education VISTA will fight poverty by creating systems to recruit and track community volunteers as well as establish training materials for a Moby Max online tutoring program for impoverished youth. By providing training materials such as program pamphlets and a full program manual, the VISTA will become the information gateway so that youth can have the tools necessary to help them make strong financial decisions to help bring them out of poverty.
