Forever LSU.The Assistant Sports Turf Manager is an essential professional position that provides support in achieving the safety and sustainability of approximately 22 acres of competition and practice natural turfgrass playing fields, as well as this position being tasked with the maintenance and oversight of approximately 10 acres of manicured landscape which is maintained by both in-house staff as well as contractors.20% Schedules weekly/monthly plans and work for regular routine maintenance of athletic fields, as well as the preventative maintenance of assigned equipment. Prioritizes work needs and ensures that necessary supplies/equipment are present for the task at hand. Leads staff in on-site project oriented work by providing direction and takes a proactive communication approach subordinates aimed at reaffirming standards of work.10% Responsible for aiding LSU Event Management staff in event operations specific to their assigned facility/sport. This can include but not be limited to management of internal facility maintenance, custodial and grounds staff as well as outside contract services such as event management security personnel or post event cleanup/custodial services.5% Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the transformational culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department; Oversees personnel discipline, safety training, performance evaluations, and other administrative functions as required. Makes recommendations for personnel changes and needs, as well as interviewing prospective employees.5% Other duties as assigned.**Minimum Qualifications**Bachelor's degree in Agronomy/Soil Sciences, Turfgrass Management, or closely related field; Five years experience in a related field; One year of supervisory experience; Turfgrass Management Certificate from an accredited four year university that is nationally recognized through national industry (i.e.; SFMA, GCSAA, etc.).LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.**Preferred Qualifications**Three years of personnel management within the turf management industry or a closely related occupation (i.e.; Sports fields, golf courses, Parks & Recreation, Landscape maintenance and installation); Louisiana General Standards pesticide applicators license with the supplementary Ornamental & Turf Pest Control designation.**Special or Physical Qualifications**Ability to work extended days, weekends and holidays. Job requires occasional lifting of objects up to 50 lbs, must infrequently be able to lift containers weighing 100 lbs. Physical effort is required to lift containers of chemicals and supplies up to 100 lbs. In accordance with University PS-18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University PS 67.
