Position Highlights This position is full‑time. First‑shift schedule, 35 hours a week with a flexible schedule based on program and facility needs. Eligible for comprehensive health, dental, and other benefits. Selected candidates must attend the 14‑week Training Academy in Cheshire, CT.
Responsibilities As a Chaplain at the DOC you will:
Administer rites and sacraments.
Prepare and preach sermons.
Conferring with visiting clergy.
Counsel individuals and their families.
Collaborate with facility staff on religious concerns.
Provide worship services during holidays.

About the Department The Connecticut Department of Correction is the agency responsible for corrections in the state, operating 13 facilities and headquartered in Wethersfield. The Religious Services Unit offers trauma‑informed pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and programs that reduce recidivism. The Chaplaincy staff provides more than 80,000 hours of ministry, 20,000 worship services, and 50,000 counseling sessions annually.
Qualifications & Requirements
Graduation from an accredited three‑year postgraduate theological seminary, or
A Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent, or
Completion of all formal religious training required by a recognized religious denomination necessary to perform the pastoral role.
One (1) year of pastoral experience or equivalent within a recognized religious denomination.
