Position open to all applicants. Weekly scheduled hours: 40 FLSA status: Non‑Exempt Earliest start date: Immediately Location: AUSTIN, TX
Purpose To provide academic advising to students pursuing natural sciences (Biochemistry, Biology, Neuroscience) and entry‑level coursework in the College of Natural Sciences (CNS). To facilitate multiple sections of small learning communities and/or support programmatic initiatives. Provide accurate and timely information on course and degree options to a wide range of students. To advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students.
Responsibilities
Oversee Natural Sciences Advising Center survey and data collection processes or provide academic advising support for students in a CNS student program or community.
Present academic advising material through workshops, facilitate multiple sections of CNS Foundations Cornerstone seminars, and participate in new student orientation.
Provide academic advising, as well as non‑academic support and referrals, to students individually and in groups.
Attend meetings, professional development and serve on committees as assigned. Support or lead office projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of professional experience.
Demonstrated ability to effectively provide academic and non‑academic advising to students.
Ability to teach, present, and/or train a wide range of students.
Proven ability to effectively and positively collaborate with others.
Superb written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.
Must be student‑centered and focused on student success.
Ability to anticipate next steps and initiate action without being asked.
Proven ability to act with discretion and hold necessary information confidential.
Limited evening and weekend hours may be required.
Must be able to work in‑person on The University of Texas at Austin campus.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field.
Experience in counseling, group work, assessment and administration of student academic programs.
Salary Range $45,000
Working Conditions
Environmental Demands: may work around standard office conditions.
Physical Tasks: Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
