Line Clearance Tree Trimmer
This position involves the care and removal of trees along street rights‑of‑way, city parks, and other City properties. Employees must use caution to avoid injury and damage to persons and property, perform assignments under close supervision, and maintain a safe working environment. Responsibilities
Climb trees using rope and saddle up to 80 feet above the ground. Remove dead and dangerous trees; grub and pull out stumps. Provide recommendations for tree maintenance improvements. Identify hazardous trees and assist in or perform pruning or removal. Prune trees and remove dead or broken limbs. Assist in site cleanup: chipping brush, raking, sweeping, loading debris and logs onto trucks. Operate tree‑related equipment as needed. Maintain tree care equipment and tools. Perform any additional duties as assigned. Requirements
Knowledge of tree care methods and equipment used in pruning, trimming, topping, spraying, and removal. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and ANZI Z133 standards. Ability to become a qualified Line Clearance Tree Trimmer. Ability to climb trees up to 80 feet with rope and saddle. Ability to start, operate, stop, and carry chainsaws weighing up to 22 lbs at heights of up to 80 ft while in a rope and saddle. Ability to tolerate machinery noise with hearing protection. Ability to lift 100 % of body weight while climbing. Ability to knot, throw accurately, and climb a half‑inch rope up to 20 ft using foot lock and body thrust. Ability to operate a 26" hand saw. Ability to bend, squat, and twist to shovel soil from up to three feet below ground level. Ability to swing an axe accurately at ground level. Ability to drag, pull, and carry up to 40 lbs of bulky tree debris as far as 50 ft and load the same up to eight feet using an ensilage or pitch fork. Ability to lift logs weighing up to 150 lbs with assistance of another worker. Ability to rake and sweep the work site using a lawn rake and push broom. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, including after‑hour emergencies. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public. Possession of a valid Kansas Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement. Ability to keep the workplace free of direct threats to others’ health and safety. Additional Information
