Brief Description
Under direction of the Arbor Manager; Lead the tree crew, run the project, and give the crew daily guidance and direction. Climbs trees or uses aerial lift truck for pruning or removals of limbs and whole trees. Assist in the ground work operations of the tree crew. Build a strong customer base by providing high quality and friendly service. Must be sure company standards, procedures and safety are followed at all times.
Essential Functions
Lead, supervise, and manage jobs.
Maintain equipment and tools to ensure they are running properly, clean and neat.
Assist with daily vehicle inspection.
Conduct daily and monthly inspections of aerial lift trucks.
Pruning or removal of limbs or whole trees.
Inspect trees for hazards; decay, fungal fruiting bodies, dead limbs or weak attachments and tree uplifting.
Operate aerial lift.
Grind tree stumps.
Prepare brush piles and logs for chipping or loading.
Buck up brush and logs with chainsaws.
Operate heavy equipment to handle large debris.
Chip brush, load logs and grind tree stumps.
Prune small trees from the ground.
Hedge shrubs from the ground.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Other Functions
Chair and/or participate in the training committees and activities committee.
Help to plan company functions such as the company picnic and/or Christmas party.
Attend seminars and/or training courses to build knowledge.
Requirements Working Conditions Work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather and many different types of conditions such as; dusty, hot, muddy, level properties, and steep hillside properties.
Equipment Used Climbing saddle and accessories, Climbing spurs, aerial lift, chainsaw, pole saw/ pruner, gas powered pole saw, gas hedger, lowering devices, blower, chipper, stump grinder, loader.
Work Hours Hours varies (5:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.), Monday - Sunday or as needed after 4:00 p.m.
Physical, Mental, and Communication Demands Position requires frequent lifting of at least 50 Requires bending, squatting, kneeling and moving equipment on a daily basis. Operating power equipment which is heavy and loud. Requires good communication skills (verbal and written). Requires learning the skills and ability to operate all equipment. Must be self‑motivated and able to handle various problems arising on the job and to follow specific instructions and safety procedures, working to specific routine. Requires a willingness to learn and grow with the company to reach advancement goals.
Skills/Knowledge Must have working knowledge of tree industry knots. Must have working knowledge of climbing techniques for tree removals and lowering of limbs. Knowledge of throwline techniques such as setting ropes and setting friction saver as needed. Knowledge of cutting techniques such as felling cuts, directional and notch cuts as well as step cuts are required. Proper use of lowering devices is also necessary. Must be able to safely operate a chainsaw, chipper, stump grinder, a loader, and an aerial lift.
Certification Requirements Must have current Driver License, Clean Traffic Record and current/valid insurance coverage for your personal vehicle. Also must have; Basic CPR/First Aid, I.S.A. pruning standards, A.N.S.I. tree work safety standards and I.S.A. Tree Worker certification.
Experience At least 1 yr. experience in related field.
