Job Title Flight Training Manager II

Department Flight Training Program

Salary $82,737 - $104,664; commensurate with experience

Job Summary The Flight Training Manager II is responsible for the effective conduct of all University flight lab courses. Reporting to the Director of Aerospace – Airport Operations, this position directly supervises Assistant Flight Training Manager(s) and staff flight instructors in the administration of these courses. Serves as a liaison to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) related to flight training operations. Performs stage checks, end-of-course checks, flight instructor upgrades, and ground training for flights, as required. Develops, manages, and updates training course outlines. Teaches Flight Instructor Fundamentals course; assignment to teach this course may vary by term based on departmental needs. Coordinates with the Director of Aerospace – Airport Operations to determine and forecast the current and future needs of the Flight Training Program. Performs administrative tasks related to flight training operations and other duties as assigned.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Aerospace, or related field.

Bachelor’s degree in a non-aviation field with a strong background in flight training may be considered.

Required Related Experience

Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in providing flight instruction to primary and advanced students, with at least two (2) years of management experience in flight training.

Flight experience meeting the requirements of 14 CFR 141.35(b)–(d) for Chief Instructor.

Required License/Registration/Certification

FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate (ASEL, AMEL, Instrument-Airplane)

FAA Flight Instructor Certificate (ASE, AME, Instrument-Airplane)

Current 2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate

Desirable Related Experience

Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a Part 141 flight training environment.

At least 50 hours PIC in Diamond DA40 aircraft.

Desirable License/Registration/Certification

Master’s degree in aviation-related field.

FAA Tailwheel Endorsement.
