Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
POST Academy graduation.
Completion of PTO (field training) program.

Position Summary This is regular or special detail police work in protecting life and property on the university campus. Work involves professional response to the need for the prevention and detection of crimes, and for generally maintaining law and order. Work also involves patrolling assigned area, traffic enforcement, accident reporting, and criminal investigations. Assignments are received from superior officers and are carried out under established policies and procedures. However, the employee will exercise quick, independent, and sound judgment and display initiative in applying work methods to emergency situations which arise when superior officers are not immediately available. Work involves dedication to public service often made difficult by emotional or physical stress of events. Work is reviewed through conferences, written reports, inspections, and observation of results obtained.

Knowledge of standard police practices and techniques.
Knowledge of the university properties, population, and traffic control problems.
Knowledge of fire prevention techniques.
Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine the proper course of action.

Ability to react quickly and calmly under emergency conditions.
Ability to obtain information through interview, interrogation, and observation.

Duties/Responsibilities
Patrol a designated area of the campus on foot or in a patrol car to preserve law and order, prevent and discover commission of crimes, and enforce traffic regulations.
Answer calls and complaints involving fire, traffic or other accidents, robberies, and other misdemeanors and felonies, and take necessary police action; make arrests.
Conduct investigations of criminal activities, collecting and identifying evidence, questioning principals and witnesses, preparing cases, and testifying in court.
Investigate traffic accidents and perform related traffic control functions.
Perform dispatcher duties such as operating telephone and shortwave radios, and performing related clerical tasks.
Fast, efficient, and accurate receiving, dispatching, and processing of calls and messages to and from police vehicles and personnel.
Recover stolen property.
Provide various types of public service and assistance to students, faculty, staff, guests, and visitors on the university campus.
Provide money escorts.
Prepare necessary records and reports.
Perform related work.
