Currin Outdoor Living is seeking a horticulturist who will manage the quality of all maintenance and enhancement jobs at our company. In this role, you will be tasked with ensuring all maintenance jobs are of the utmost quality and that proper care and enhancement practices are being carried out.

Compensation & Benefits
$55,000 to $65,000 per year, based on experience

As The Horticulturist Your Responsibilities Will Include
Develop and manage a strategic maintenance calendar that aligns with best horticultural practices
Visit all job sites to ensure best practices are being followed
Train crews to follow our processes and hold them accountable
Monitor lawn and plant health, soil conditions, and overall landscape performance
Work with our team and vendors to ensure our landscapes perform the way they should and meet client goals
Demonstrate expertise in the care of landscape plant material, such as mowing, pruning, deadheading, pest and weed management, mulching, fertilizing, and other seasonal activities, regardless of weather conditions
Be a strong communicator and able to engage with our clients, crews, and other team members
Safely operate and maintain all tools and equipment required for horticultural tasks
Perform all aspects of seasonal care for properties, including pruning, weeding, mulching, pest management, hand watering, fertilization, shrub and flower installation and care, leaf removal, clean up of trash and debris, snow and ice removal
Ability to work in all weather conditions, demonstrating resilience in hot, cold, rainy, windy, and snowy weather
Required Experience
Minimum 2 years’ experience in maintaining horticultural gardens or landscapes
Possession of an NC Pesticide Applicator’s License, or the ability to acquire one within 90 days of hire
A valid NC Driver’s License with a clean record
Ideal Qualifications And Skills
An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Horticultural Science or industry certification such as NCNLA Certified Plant Professional
Excellent knowledge of pruning techniques for shrubs and small trees, encompassing structural, aesthetic, and corrective techniques based on season and plant type
Strong working knowledge of integrated pest management techniques, including pest identification, beneficial insects, chemicals, non-chemical methods, sprayer calibration, and accurate record-keeping
Highly organized and highly detail-oriented – must be able to follow and execute processes, track and maintain to-do lists, comply with deadlines, receive information from multiple sources, and act
Excellent speaking and writing skills – must be able to communicate on the phone and email with clients, vendors, etc. in an effective, professional manner
Strong ability and interest to learn and utilize technology tools and platforms
High level of character and integrity
Be Humble (willing and able to give and receive feedback; able to learn and grow), Hungry (possess a desire to learn, grow, and succeed), and Smart (able to understand and adjust how they relate to other people)
Supervisory Responsibilities Yes
Physical Demands The position requires various physical activities, including prolonged standing, walking, stooping, crawling, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, reaching, grasping, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and handling. Candidates must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds.
Work Environment The position requires exposure to various outdoor conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and humidity, fluctuating weather patterns, wet and dry environments, high noise levels from equipment and machinery, and vibrations from the use of power tools.
Additional Environmental Exposures Include
Proximity to moving mechanical parts, such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and other landscaping equipment
Potential exposure to electrical hazards, particularly when working near or with electrical systems (e.g., lighting or irrigation systems)
Atmospheric conditions, such as dust, pollen, and fumes from machinery, fertilizers, or chemicals, require proper safety measures
Risk of electrical shock when using certain power tools or working around electrical systems
Working on or near wet, slippery surfaces, or uneven terrain, which may increase the risk of slips and falls
Bee stings and other bug bites
