Paraeducator Special Education Employment type:

Full‑time – 184 days per year, 6.5 hours/day

Responsibilities

Assist in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room, or center‑based settings.

Manage behavior, including redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom.

Monitor and record student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).

Manage physical needs such as toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, and transporting students in wheelchairs.

Implement the behavioral management program, maintain student data, and work with students who may display aggressive or inappropriate behavior.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Personal Care Assistant certification completed within 30 days of start date.

Completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passed the ParaEducator or ParaPro exam (documentation required).

Good communication, interpersonal and record‑keeping skills.

Ability to work with technology and computers.

Ability to supervise students and work cooperatively with staff.

Ability to maintain regular attendance and take direction.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform physical tasks such as toileting, feeding, and self‑care procedures.

Pay $20.00–$25.30 per hour for DOQ with K‑12 experience; $21.15–$26.45 per hour with an AA/AAS degree or equivalent; $22.00–$27.30 per hour with a BA degree. Special Ed Paras serving center‑based students or classrooms 50%+ of their time receive an additional $0.50 per hour; those serving at Two Rivers Transition Program or River Trail Learning Center receive an additional $1.00 per hour.
