Studies and Planning Design Engineer
role. ECI is seeking graduate electrical engineers to join our Planning and Studies team. The position is based in Madison, WI or Chesapeake, VA and requires onsite presence.
Responsibilities
Perform electrical studies using tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, ASPEN Oneliner, Cape, PSCAD, and EMTP‑RV (experience not required).
Assist with training and mentoring from an experienced ECI engineer to master techniques and QA/QC processes.
Analyze large‑scale renewable energy projects (wind, solar, energy storage) ranging from 50 MW to >2000 MW.
Support project conceptual development, design, equipment selection, and post‑COD operating issues.
Develop apparatus ratings and specifications for transformers, circuit breakers, switches, cables, switchgear, inverters, wind turbines, and DC/AC auxiliary power systems.
Participate in utility and industrial studies, including transmission load additions, long‑range planning, generation interconnections, black‑start analysis, voltage unbalance, line transposition, breaker isolation, insulation coordination, and distribution planning.
Minimum Requirements
BSEE or MSEE from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam.
Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to prepare high‑quality engineering reports.
Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Capable of traveling occasionally and meeting client‑mandated background checks.
Must not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H‑1B) now or in the future.
