Job Summary Job Title: Certified Weld Inspector Location: Tempe, Arizona Reports to: Project Manager

Company Overview University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors (UMEC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of EMCOR Group. Umec provides full mechanical installations including plumbing, piping, process piping, ductwork, and equipment for commercial, institutional, high‑tech, and industrial clients.

Summary UMEC seeks a Certified Weld Inspector to lead welding quality control efforts on mechanical construction projects, ensuring compliance with industry codes, project specifications, and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect welds and materials per AWS, ASME, API standards

Develop and manage welding QC plans and documentation

Review WPS, PQR, and WPQ

Perform visual and NDT inspections

Coordinate with third‑party inspectors and clients

Maintain welder certifications and inspection records

Support training and resolve quality issues

Preferred Education and Experience

Degree in Welding Tech or Mechanical Engineering

Experience in HVAC or piping systems

AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

3–5 years of welding QC experience in construction

Knowledge of AWS D1.1, ASME IX, API 1104

Familiarity with NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT)

Strong communication and documentation skills

Additional certifications (e.g., NDT Level II, ASQ)

Physical Demands Regular sitting, seeing, talking, and hearing; communication verbally and in writing one‑on‑one, small groups, or presenting to larger groups. Requires extended computer use. Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment Typical office conditions except when visiting field locations; noise moderate to loud. May involve travel by car or airplane to field sites or business meetings.
