Compensation Range: $24.76 - $31.85 per hour

The referenced pay range represents the first and last step pay rates for this job, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Individual pay will be set in accordance with terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

Fabricates, assembles, repairs and/or maintains mechanical apparatus, machines, facilities and/or equipment. Requires general knowledge and skill to perform fairly complicated machinery and bench operations.

May assist higher classified trades personnel or work independently. Works to fairly close tolerances.

Supervision: Under immediate supervision of departmental supervisor; may receive direction from higher classified trades personnel or higher-level officer functioning as administrative head.

No formal supervisory authority.

Machines and equipment used: A variety of hand, bench and machine shop tools such as gauges, gears, fixtures and lathes.

Typical duties include: laying out, planning and completing mechanical, fabrication and assembly assignments of moderate difficulty; assisting higher classified trades personnel in tasks involving greater complexity or difficulty; setting up and operating machines; working from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams and verbal instructions; assembling and maintaining mechanical and electrical components of complex models, instruments, apparatus and equipment; performing electrical maintenance on elevators, hoists, conveyors and electric motors; performing basic and routine level work such as carpentry or electrical tasks where incidental to mechanical work; performing other duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent educational training.

Ability to read and write English; use shop mathematics, charts, tables and handbook formulae; read and interpret specialized drawings and diagrams.

Completion of approved apprenticeship program or equivalent formal training and experience.

Required use and/or wear of safety equipment specified or provided by the University in the manner prescribed.

Observe and follow safe work practices as specified by OSHA or other regulations.

Depending on functional area, may require a valid motor vehicle operator's license and ability to operate vehicles safely.

Willingness to work long and irregular hours when assigned; reachable by telephone at irregular hours for call‑in duty.
