Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full-Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Pay: $39.25 per hour

Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification up to $700

Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter – four times per year

Sign‑On Bonus: $1,750 at 30 days and $1,750 at 90 days

Tool Box/Tool Allowance

Schedule: Monday–Friday, weekends off

Hours: Second Shift 3:30 pm – 12:00 am

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree or other technical certifications preferred

Basic tools required

Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:

Routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)

Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems

Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred

Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred

All other certifications required by location, required

Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment

Computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.

Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire

Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)

Responsibilities

Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including:

Standard and preventive maintenance

Diagnosis of complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers

Complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision

Replacement of defective components as instructed

Unsup­vised work on most tasks

Performs facility maintenance duties

Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaints once assigned a task

Utilizes key functions of shop management system and electronic documentation

Works in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)

Acts as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels

Accesses and uses internal and external maintenance documents

Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)

Completes SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT220)

Completes 2 of the OEM On‑Line diagnostic scan tool software courses within 365 days of hire
