Do you want to build something real that helps make the world cleaner? Do you want to be part of a team that pushes to be the best in its field? Come join us at ClearSign as a Development Engineer in a growing organization that refuses to accept the status quo.
This role is centered on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for advanced combustion systems, with a mix of project work and hands‑on testing. A typical year might look like:
CFD simulation, product development, and report writing – ~80%
Support of physical testing (lab and field) – ~10–20%
Project management of development projects – ~0–10%
Travel to conferences and trade shows – ~0–5%
Overall travel may be up to ~20%, including trips to customer sites for installation support, optimization, troubleshooting, and field testing.
This work is demanding, schedule-intensive, and often ambiguous—you will need to make rational, defensible decisions in the face of uncertainty. In return, you’ll be working at the forefront of real technology, doing things no one else in our industry is doing.
Qualifications (Required)
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, process engineering, or a closely related field
Advanced degree (MS/PhD) is a plus
Experience with CFD tools, preferably Siemens Star-CCM+ or ANSYS Fluent, ideally in a professional setting
Fundamental knowledge of combustion, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, chemistry, and heat transfer
Ability to work both independently and as part of a small, multidisciplinary team
Strong written and verbal communication skills (reports, presentations, customer discussions)
Good technical and commercial judgment
Motivated, self‑starting, practical problem solver who is comfortable being hands‑on (lab and field)
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally up to ~20% of the time
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Additional Advantages
Experience with burners, boilers, process heaters, flares, or combustion systems
Experience working at refineries, petrochemical plants, or similar industrial sites
Experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or project management
Experience with 3D CAD modeling
Experience developing and reviewing P&IDs and control narratives
Qualified applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to careers@clearsign.com.
