Construction Superintendent – Travel

Position Overview

As a Construction Superintendent, you will be the heartbeat of our project sites, leading day‑to‑day construction operations with precision, foresight, and integrity. You’ll orchestrate every moving part of the field team, from managing timelines and budgets to ensuring safety and top‑tier quality, driving the successful execution of complex, high‑impact building projects. This role requires the ability to travel extensively and temporarily reside at the project site for extended periods of time, with travel home provided during project.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Field Operations: Serve as the primary on‑site liaison between ownership, architects, engineers, and subcontractors. Oversee all field construction activities, ensuring seamless coordination and clear communication across all stakeholders.
Schedule & Plan: Create and execute comprehensive project schedules, identifying critical path activities and ensuring timely delivery of materials, equipment, and labor to keep projects on track and within budget.
Team Leadership: Supervise and develop field staff, promote a collaborative culture, and provide mentorship and performance feedback to build a high‑performing construction team.
Safety Champion: Develop and enforce a proactive site‑specific safety plan. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, codes, and company standards, fostering a zero‑incident environment.
Quality Control: Ensure all work is executed to the highest standards of quality, in accordance with contract documents, specifications, and best practices. Manage inspections, testing, and approval processes including mock‑ups.
Problem Solver: Identify and resolve project challenges swiftly, from design clarifications and labor concerns to material delays and scheduling conflicts, to keep work progressing efficiently.
Site Operations Management: Oversee site logistics, equipment, subcontractor workforces, temporary facilities, and general site conditions. Manage general requirements and conditions to support field productivity and budget control.
Compliance & Permitting: Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and insurance documents are secured and kept current. Act as the primary contact for local agencies, inspectors, and compliance officers.
Budget & Billing Oversight: Monitor labor and material costs, manage project WIP (Work‑in‑Place), and oversee subcontractor invoicing and progress payments.
Environmental Oversight: Act as the Stormwater Compliance Coordinator (SCC), ensuring adherence to stormwater regulations and environmental standards.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Physical Demands
Navigate active construction sites, including climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
Work at heights and in confined spaces when necessary
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
Maintain visual and auditory awareness of site hazards (e.g., alarms, machinery)
Stand, stoop, crouch, and walk for extended periods
Work Environment
Primarily field‑based on active construction sites
Regular exposure to weather elements, loud noise, moving machinery, and airborne particles
Must be comfortable working in high‑risk and high‑intensity environments
Appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required and provided
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred
Minimum 8 years of experience in building construction, including at least 4 years in a supervisory or superintendent role
Equivalent combinations of education and hands‑on experience considered
Deep understanding of construction means, methods, sequencing, and materials
Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and contracts
Experienced with layout, line and grade, and surveying methods
Familiar with cost control processes and basic accounting procedures
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Experienced with construction software and tools (e.g., Procore, Primavera, BIM, Lean Construction technologies)
Strong leadership and communication abilities
Strategic thinker with excellent problem‑solving skills
Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
