Base pay range $110,000.00/yr - $120,000.00/yr
Hybrid (Portland, OR)
$110,000 – $120,000/year DOE
We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations for a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This role is ideal for a hands‑on financial professional who thrives in small to mid‑sized environments, enjoys balancing efficiency with compliance, and has strong nonprofit and grant accounting expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate transactions, grant compliance, and data integrity.
Manage annual audits and tax filings (e.g., Form 990) with external auditors.
Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end closings, including reconciliations, journal entries, and preparation of closing packages.
Maintain, enforce, and periodically test financial controls; update processes to balance compliance and efficiency.
Record complex accounting entries, including pledges receivable, PTO, lease and interest adjustments, deferred revenue, and project cost allocations.
Perform account reconciliations (bank, credit card, payroll, loans) and maintain accounting memos for revenue, assets, leases, and software.
Stay current with GAAP, non‑profit accounting best practices, and federal grant requirements; advise management on necessary updates.
Support preparation of financial statements, cash flow reports, and budget vs. actual analyses for leadership and Board reporting.
Evaluate software systems and recommend upgrades or improvements.
Foster strong collaboration across teams and handle additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
3‑5+ years of related experience in nonprofit and grant accounting.
CPA or CMA required.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and government contracting rules.
NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
Familiarity with PEO payroll systems.
Advanced Excel skills; ability to adapt to changing priorities.
